Today in class we read “When You Give Pig A Pancake”, which was basically about a pig wanting a pancake and then wanting more after that. This book is a great example of how a circular story is used. A circular story is a story in which the beginning of the book eventually ends back to where it had originally started. This book started out with a pig wanting a pancake and then ending with a pig wanting a pancake again. You can use this in the classroom by teaming up students into different groups. Each group will receive an index card, on this index card it will show them what part of the book they received. They will try to put themselves into the correct order in which it occurred. From beginning to end, each group will eventually find is way in order by asking each student different questions. Making reading fun can be tough but it can be worked on. In class we blew bubbles which were fun to us, and imagine how fun it will be when the children blow it. Dr. Harris also gave us the idea to make a “book box”. Inside this box will be a book with 5 different items. One by one we will take out each item and show to the class. We then pass around each item and ask the kids what the book will be about. At the end of this we will show what book we will be reading. These are some ways I learned in class on how to make reading fun.
