Writing is a process!! In class we learned writing is a process. We repeated that sentence several times to where it was stuck in all of our heads. There are five steps in this process that we must follow to ensure a proper writing process. The first step is pre-writing. Pre-writing is the step in which you organize your thoughts. You can help your students doing this by giving a story map. For example, a narrative consist of story, plot, who, what, when, and why. These are some things that can lead to further elaboration. The next step is drafting. The drafting is a sloppy rough copy. This part of the process you will focus more on content. After drafting comes revising. In this part you will change, add, or delete sentences, content and ideas. The fourth step is editing. You will make and final changes to the paper. Last but not least is publishing. This part of the paper will be final. Dr. Harris gave us a great example of using a hamburger. We start with the bun, in this bun we give positive thought about the work. Next is the meat, tomatoes, etc. We give constructive criticism in which the student can revise/edit the paper. Then the bun comes again in which we give another compliment.
